Characterized by its updated sensor design, the Sony a7 III is a well-rounded camera suitable for both photo and video applications in a variety of work situations. Optimized for improved speed and low-light performance, the full-frame 24.2 MP Exmor R-BSI CMOS sensor and BIONZ-X image processor combine an impressive 10 fps continuous shooting speed and improved autofocus performance for a faster and more reliable subject tracking, as well as wide frame coverage.
This updated Fast Hybrid AF system uses a combination of 693 phase-detection points and 425 contrast-detection areas for faster focusing in a variety of lighting conditions, while better maintaining focus on subjects. In addition to speed and AF, the processing improvements also help achieve greater image sharpness and less noise across the entire ISO 100-51.200 sensitivity range, which can be further extended to ISO 50-204.800. Video recording capabilities have also been enhanced to improve quality when recording UHD 4K video using the full width of the full-frame sensor to minimize moiré and aliasing. In addition, the a7 III uses 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE sensor-shift image stabilization, which now effectively minimizes the occurrence of camera shake by up to 5 stops, improving both still image and video performance.
In addition to the mere updates to the imaging system, the body design of the Sony a7 III has been revised to incorporate a 3.0-inch, 922k-dot LCD touchscreen on the rear, which is tiltable, making it easier to work from higher and lower angles.
A 2.36m-dot Tru-Finder OLED EVF is also used for crisp and clear eye-level monitoring. For more shooting flexibility, there are now two SD memory card slots and a larger NP-FZ100 battery is used for up to around 710 shots to make per load. The magnesium alloy body and weatherproof seal are suitable for using the camera in harsh conditions and also make the a7 III resistant to dust and moisture.
