The Sony SEL 12-24mm f/2.8 GM is a bright and versatile zoom with a range of ultra-wide fields of view, characterized by its large range and bright design. With a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8, this lens is ideal for working in available light and controlling depth of field to isolate subjects. The advanced optical design incorporates a range of XA, Aspheric, Super ED and ED elements that work together to reduce a wide range of aberrations and distortions for high levels of sharpness, accurate rendition and remarkable color accuracy. An updated Nano AR Coating II has also been applied, which suppresses flare and ghosting to improve contrast when working in bright and backlit environments.
Complementing the optics is an XD linear motor system that uses four separate focusing motors to deliver ultra-quiet, accurate and fast autofocus performance. It also uses a floating focus design that helps maintain consistent results across the entire focus range from 11 inches to infinity. The lens also features a dust and moisture-proof design and a fluorine-coated front lens element to aid in shooting in difficult conditions and there’s a built-in petal-shaped lens hood to block stray light and physically protect the front element.
